Core values of Copenhagen Pride

Copenhagen Pride is a human rights NGO that works for sexual and gender diversity. The organization is based on the classic LGBTQIA+ movement, but, through the above formulation, wants to emphasize its broader focus by not, by highlighting certain groups, excluding others.

Copenhagen Pride is a listening and norm-critical organization with inclusion as its core value.

Copenhagen Pride is based on an intersectional feminist ideology. We base our inclusion efforts on analyzes of power and privilege and place the responsibility for creating space for inclusion and diversity on those who hold the position of power in a given situation. We work to ensure inclusion across sexuality, gender, gender identity, ethnicity, religiosity, functionality, etc.

Copenhagen Pride considers gender as well as the perception of sexuality as a social construct. Through a non-binary gender view, we want to work towards enabling many representations of gender in addition to the traditional male and female roles. The concept of normality in relation to sexuality and legislation on sexuality are also social constructions. Copenhagen Pride works for every human being to have the right and opportunity to live out their sexuality in security and freedom, provided that this sexuality does not exceed other individuals’ freedom of choice and equal participation.

Copenhagen Pride thus works to influence society and legislation towards fewer restrictions on sexuality and gender identity, and as such also supports efforts to change legislation, taking into account the section above on the right to freedom of choice and equal participation.

Copenhagen Pride works with everyone who supports the organization’s purpose, as described in this document, and tries to establish dialogue with those who do not yet.

Copenhagen Pride partially bases its economy on corporate sponsorships. In this work, we try to influence sponsors to ensure better inclusion of sexual and gender identity minorities in their businesses. We only work with companies that have a Danish collective agreement and that comply with the rules of the Danish labor market.

Copenhagen Pride is an inclusion organization and a celebration of diversity. More specifically, this means that hate speech directed against minorities, shaming, abusive behaviour and discrimination have no place in our activities, and we do not consider it to be a mitigating circumstance that the practitioners themselves belong to a minority group. People must be able to safely feel like themselves in Copenhagen Pride’s activities, and any participant must be able to back this up.

Fighting for rights can only be done in an organization and in a society in which fundamental human values are respected, which is a regard for the individual based on democratic principles and respecting fundamental human rights and Principles. This is the norm and values that Copenhagen Pride work with.

Together, we are stronger
In debates, whether in the real world or on social media, we react to any exclusionary, offensive and hareful tone of the debate. We stand strong when we have the ability to stand close together – shoulder to shoulder. But we can only do that if we treat each other respectfully, engage in constructive dialogues and want to build strong rainbow bridges together.

We want inclusion on these terms, and can you vouch for the values of Copenhagen Pride as described here, you are very welcome in our activities.
